McDermotts apprentices improve community space at St Joseph’s Church in Nechells

We are proud to share the impact of our recent community project at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Nechells, Aston.

Located just one mile from our Head Office, the initiative was particularly close to home. Six of our apprentices spent a full week working together to transform the church’s outdoor space, delivering meaningful improvements for the local community.

The team carried out a range of enhancement works, including litter picking, site clearance, strimming, grass cutting, and the general tidying of green spaces. These efforts have helped to revitalise and improve a well-used community area, creating a cleaner and more welcoming environment for visitors.

With guidance from Chris Millward of Team4Nature, the apprentices also gained valuable insight into the importance of protecting local wildlife and supporting biodiversity. This added a deeper sense of purpose to the project, highlighting the role that construction and maintenance activities can play in creating more sustainable environments.

As well as improving a valued community space, the initiative provided the apprentices with hands-on experience and a greater understanding of environmental responsibility.

We would like to thank everyone involved in making the project a success, including our partners at Salutem, and our dedicated apprentices whose energy and commitment made a real difference.

We are proud to support the local community and look forward to seeing the space continue to thrive.
