The Manitou 360-degree Rotating Telehandler (MRT 2260) is the first item of plant incorporating Safety Shield Human Recognition technology that McDermotts have invested in. The smart technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) feature proves for optimum handling of plant machinery, increasing safety with people and plant interfaces, of which is this has been developed specifically for.
Safety Shield distinguish the technology to be “the most advanced AI human form recognition safety system available on the market.” Safety Shield is a collision avoidance system which uses AI to distinguish between objects and humans. The system notifies the plant operator if a human is identified within the danger recognition zones, also alerting the person that they have entered the zones. In addition, there is a thumbs up system where the machine can be isolated if someone needs to enter into the red zone and speak with the operator.
John Moriarty, Production Director at McDermotts has said: “We’re delighted the MRT 2260 has joined our fleet, as this new machinery is part of our continued and long-term investment of plant, technology and safety for McDermotts, as we look to boost productivity and efficiency, whilst reducing the risk of people plant interface accidents on our projects.”
