Next Distribution Centre

This 25-metre high distribution centre for Next spans 58,000m2. At one end of the steel structure is a five-storey office block. The centre is connected to an existing distribution centre on the other side of the road via a two-storey 120m link bridge. Although unusual, the bridge enables forklift trucks to carry goods between the two centres reducing the requirement for lorries to use local roads.

By working closely with Bowmer & Kirkland on the drainage system, we were able to utilise two existing manholes and install the drainage at a depth of three metres rather than the planned eight metres, reducing the cost and time required for this part of the project.

The new structure also sits on 10,000 pile caps, of which 4,000 had flared heads and a tight tolerance.
