Congratulations apprentice Alex

Congratulations apprentice Alex

It’s been a long time coming for Alex, but this month he’s passed his Level 2 Groundworks apprenticeship with flying colours!

Alex was originally due to start his apprenticeship in March 2020. However, the Covid-19 lockdown resulted in colleges and training establishments having to close, along with other restrictions being imposed. Apprenticeships were suspended until a safer time.

Fast forward 12 months and Alex was finally able to start his long-awaited apprenticeship in March 2021. At the time Alex told us: “I’ve always wanted to do something hands-on and in construction. I’m most looking forward to learning how to operate a dumper and a roller!”

Apprenticeships offer the chance to learn skills while gaining practical experience in a real working environment. Since March 2021, Alex has split his time between working on project sites and at purpose-built training facilities.

Alex received a distinction and we’re delighted that he’s decided to stay on to build his career with McDermotts. Longer term, Alex hopes to become an engineer.

McDermotts’ apprentice training partner is Salutem. Salutem encourages apprentices to train at their own pace, through individual learning plans. Gemma Kemp, Salutem’s Operations Director said: “Alex has been a model student throughout.”

Well done Alex, what an amazing achievement!
