We are delighted to share that McDermotts have been rated ‘excellent’ with a perfect score of 45/45 in the recent Considerate Constructors audit, conducted in September at our HS2 site in Coleshill.

As a member of the scheme since 2018, we are proud to maintain the highest possible score for a second consecutive year. By embedding efficient practices throughout our operations, we continually strive to achieve ‘excellent’ ratings across all our project sites.

The Considerate Constructors Scheme monitor noted that McDermotts “sought to ensure that their works have as low an impact as is reasonable on the surrounding environment and local community” and that “it is clear that the site team are engaging with the CCS Code of Practice”.

Additional comments from the auditor throughout the assessed categories of community, environment and workforce, include:

Respect the Community:

• Local employment is encouraged, by advertising available roles and using local agencies.
• The site has partnered with Heartbeat Trust UK to situate defibrillators at each construction site and, when complete it will be located in the local community.
• Donations have been made to a local foodbank, wildlife charity and IT equipment donated to a local primary school.

Care for the Environment:

• The site has in place environmental and sustainability procedures, and processes that will enhance the existing site environment.
• The site is engaged with minimising waste and energy saving measures are in place.

Value their Workforce:

• The site has in place well considered policies and procedures to show they value and care about the welfare and safety of the workforce.
• Support for disadvantage groups, including apprentices and prison leavers.
• Implementation of training needs analysis, plans and career development, with E-learning available through the Supply Chain Sustainability School, CCS Best Practice and other partners.

This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to best practice, sustainability, and community engagement across all projects. We look forward to continuing this approach and maintaining these high standards across all future sites.
