Congratulations and well done to our colleague Dean Hanley who climbed up Derby Cathedral 20 times to raise money for Scotty’s Little Soldiers on Saturday 1st July.
Scotty’s Little Soldiers is a charity set up by war widow Nikki Scott in 2010 in memory of her husband Corporal Lee Scott who was killed in Afganistan in 2009. The charity supports children across the UK who have lost a parent serving in the British Armed Forces by providing support and guidance including bereavement therapy and days out.
Dean, alongside friends Tim and Simon, climbed the steps to the top of the Cathedral in single file 20 times. That’s 3,780 steps or 4,380 feet and is the equivalent to climbing Ben Nevis!
After the challenge Dean said “The Cathedral Climb is something totally different. I’ve done two marathons and this was much harder than that. Three days later my legs are still hurting!”
Dean is no stranger to raising money for charity. The weekend before the climb he took part in a boxing match and last year he helped raise money for a school in Nepal after the earthquake.
