Heartbeat of the community: McDermotts lead with life-saving donation

At McDermotts, we believe in making a difference – not just through the work we do on our project sites, but through the impact we leave behind in the communities we serve. As part of that commitment, we recently donated a defibrillator to the Nechells POD Community Centre, a place that sits at the heart of our local community and less than one mile from our Head Office in Aston, Birmingham.

We know that sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Without timely intervention of CPR and defibrillation the chance of survival is less than 3%. Incredibly, if action is taken within 5 minutes the survival rate increases to as much as 75%.

We were recently joined by Beth, Charity Director from the Nechells POD Community Centre, to officially hand over the defibrillator. Fortunately, the defibrillator is now located at the community centre and available to anyone who may need it.

This donation reflects a wider commitment we are making as a business. McDermotts are proudly part of the pilot to become the first commercial organisation accredited to the new ‘Defib-Friendly Standard’. This accreditation is designed to provide encouragement, guidance, and support to strategically improve the defibrillator provision within a community or corporation for the benefit of all its residents and employees.

At McDermotts, we are proud to work closely with our communities and leave a legacy to ensure that our presence continues to have a positive impact.
