As part of our commitment to supporting The Trussell Trust network of food banks this year, we asked everyone attending the 2022 Summer Celebration to donate one item for the Aston & Nechells Food Bank.

More than 2.1 million parcels were distributed to people facing financial hardship across the country, from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022 by food banks in the Trust’s network. This is a 14% increase compared to the same period in 2019/20 – before the pandemic –  as more and more people are unable to afford the absolute essentials that we all need to eat, stay warm, dry and clean.

In true McDermotts style, everyone went above and beyond and we collected a massive 267.1kg of food and toiletries. This included

• 75 bottles of shower gel
• 57 toothbrushes
• 49 litres UHT milk
• 38 tubes of toothpaste
• 25 jars of coffee

… and over 470 other items.

The food bank will hand these out to families and individuals in crisis over the next few weeks. Unfortunately the numbers of people needing support is only increasing.
