McDermotts deliver Social Value in the local community at Spencer’s Retreat Farm

McDermotts are proud to have contributed to social value projects at Spencer’s Retreat Farm, a local farm dedicated to providing activities for children and adults with special needs. The charity is run entirely by volunteers and relies on donations to operate, offering a safe and enriching environment where individuals with special needs can connect with nature and animals – something we are honoured to support.

Spencer’s Retreat Farm is local to one of our project sites in Solihull, which made this initiative even more meaningful for our team, and we have engaged in two different projects with this charity. On our first visit, we focused on improving disabled access and facilities, making the farm more inclusive and welcoming for all visitors, we also installed a septic tank and ducting for lighting columns around the farm. On our second visit, we renovated the play area (50ft x 31ft), including digging out and resurfacing, creating a safe and enjoyable space for everyone.

Across both projects, we have provided over £10,000 worth of in-kind contributions through 170 hours of labour, alongside the provision of plant and materials. Seeing the positive impact our efforts have on the farm and its visitors is incredibly rewarding. Giving back to our local communities is central to our values, as we believe in making a difference – not just through the work we do on our project sites, but through the impact we leave behind in the communities we serve.

Spencer’s Retreat Farm continues to welcome volunteers and donations, and we encourage others to get involved and support their valued work as a charity.
