In celebration of Women in Construction Week, we were proud to bring together women from across the business for a dedicated wellbeing-focused morning and creating space to connect.
The session provided an opportunity to step away from our desks, focus on mental wellbeing and engage in meaningful conversations around topics that positively support our day-to-day lives. It was a chance not only to celebrate the women within our organisation, but also to reinforce our commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive workplace.
We hosted two wellbeing activities led by specialist professionals. A Pilates instructor guided a chair-based session focused on low-intensity stretching, breathing techniques and spinal mobility, encouraging relaxation and posture awareness. A Nutritionist delivered an insightful session covering key women’s health topics, including energy and stress management, hormone balance and gut health. Both sessions were designed to empower and equip attendees with practical tools to support their wellbeing both at work and at home.
Investing in women’s development
Women in Construction Week is not only about celebration, but also about recognition, progression and opportunity.
At McDermotts, we are committed to investing in training, professional development and championing women across all areas of our business. We believe that creating clear pathways for career progression and supporting individuals to gain recognised qualifications is essential to delivering excellence across our projects. By fostering an inclusive environment and encouraging continuous learning, we are helping to shape a stronger, more diverse future for the construction industry.
Reflecting this commitment, we are delighted to announce that our SHEQ Compliance Advisor, Claire Kirby-Smith, who has been a valued member of the McDermotts team for 14 years, has successfully achieved her NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals qualification.
The NEBOSH Diploma is a globally recognised qualification in health, safety and environmental management. Achieving this certification demonstrates Claire’s technical expertise and her continued dedication to upholding the highest safety standards across our projects.
Championing long-term career progression
Claire’s achievement is not only a personal success, but also a reflection of McDermotts’ ongoing investment in our people. Construction is an ever-evolving industry, and ensuring our teams are equipped with up-to-date knowledge and recognised qualifications enables us to maintain the highest operational and safety standards.
While construction has traditionally been male-dominated, McDermotts actively encourages and supports women to develop their skills, gain professional qualifications and advance their careers within the company.
As we mark Women in Construction Week, we’re celebrating the achievements of the women across our business, recognising their contribution and supporting their wellbeing, as we continue to champion diversity within construction. At McDermotts, investing in our people is how we continue to build excellence.
