Job Overview:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Undergraduate in Construction to join our team in Birmingham, West Midlands.

As a well-established groundworks and civil engineering company supporting major construction projects, McDermotts offers a dynamic work environment where you can gain valuable hands-on experience in the construction industry.

This is a paid undergraduate position for 12 months, with opportunities for growth within the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior team members in various construction projects, including highways infrastructure, car parks, public realm developments, and industrial/commercial schemes.
  • Participate in on-site activities to gain practical knowledge of construction processes.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure project timelines are met.
  • Learn and apply industry best practices in construction methods and safety protocols.
  • Support the pre-construction team with research, documentation, and project coordination tasks.
  • Contribute to the preparation of tender documents and bids under supervision.
  • Attend meetings with clients and stakeholders to observe communication strategies.

Requirements:

  • Pursuing a degree in Construction Management or related field.
  • Strong interest in the construction industry with a focus on civil engineering projects.
  • Basic understanding of construction terminology and processes.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  • Availability to work full-time hours based in Birmingham.
